Planting that little seed of…

Posted by in Challenge, Change, Life

Doubt…. Opportunity! Kaisa spoke about this already several times. How the Universe always rewards you for the efforts you make (or don’t make). Many times over the past months, since we started our new Life, have we heard “Oh, I would SO like to do that, but…”, or “I’m so envious of you!”, or “I wish I could…”. Or in the other direction “No clue, I haven’t made any plans.”, or “I’m just going where I feel like.” Last week we ran into a couple who was also preparing plans…read more

The inspirationals

Posted by in Change, Freedom, Life, Travel

You meet a lot of those here. Inspirational people with their fantastic stories. My favorite is the one when we ask “how long are you staying in Philippines?” and they say “I don’t really know, I don’t have a plan.” It makes me smile every time I hear it. I love it, because I know there is an interesting story waiting to be told. Last week we had a gentleman in his early 60’s. He traveled the world with his backpack in his early twenties, after which he decided that he…read more

Are we really free?

Posted by in Freedom, Life, Travel

We have been talking a lot about perspective lately. I guess this island life of ours is doing its job and throwing our minds into a lovely spin of all things new. Just like we wanted… Last week I was talking to a good friend via Skype, and she asked me what the favorite part was of my new life. I found it hard to answer, for some odd reason. Thoughts raced by. Was I really happier now? Wasn’t I happy before…. Not that I was always satisfied with my life…read more

How Life blows my mind

Posted by in Change, Life

I was looking at the choppy ocean from the terrace of my new home. I had just been reading more about the Quantum Physics, and about how our thoughts create our reality (we’ve talked about this). My thoughts went to a time two years back. And then it hit me. Two years ago I had no idea that I would be sitting where I was sitting now, not even the slightest clue (not that any of us do, really). And as we were having dinner later on that night, we…read more

Society, who are you?

Posted by in Change, Life, Travel

We get many comments about our current existence. Some are questioning our sanity, leaving a seemingly secure life in Europe for unknown adventures in south-east Asia. People repeatedly ask us about our plans, how long we plan to stay abroad and what our back-up plan is (or my personal favorite: ‘But what about your pension?!‘) Plan? Back-up plan? Pension?? We don’t have back-up plans. We are truly here, for now, letting life run through us. And no, although it looks like it, we are not ‘doing nothing‘ here. We are actually quite busy…read more

Same place, many different worlds

Posted by in Life, Travel

I know we are all different. But it’s interesting to observe just how different we are. The place where we are currently staying is the same for everyone. It has the same beach, the same dive sites, same weather and the same buildings. Some people stay in bigger bungalows and some in smaller rooms, but for the rest it’s the same for everyone. Yet the experience is always so different. And the reactions really tell more about the person giving the reactions, than about the place receiving them. One person…read more

It’s all about priorities

Posted by in Change, Finances, Life

Sometimes you wonder. We came to this place from the western world. From the “civilized” world, as we used to call it. There are many, many differences. Big differences. But with some things most people simply are the same. People in the west would buy gadgets, big tv’s, stereo sets… It’s, I guess, some sort of a status symbol. A way to show other people how much money you have to spend. Some people may do it, because they simply want the quality of imagery or sound, but for the…read more

A day of days

Posted by in Life

I have lived many days. But I can honestly say that the other day I had one of the best days ever! We had a staff day, meaning the whole staff of the resort went out together to Mantigue Island (a small bounty island east of Camiguin Island). The day was not special because of the island trip, I have been to Mantigue many times before. The sun was also shining, nothing unusual there. What made the day so special were the people I was with. The local staff had been waiting for this…read more

Why bigger is not better

Posted by in Change, Life, Outdoors, Travel

Things have changed. When you are living on a small island, life is bound to be different than back ‘home’ in Europe. Life has become smaller, that’s for sure. We never wanted a grand existence. All we ever wanted is to be free, and to do what we love. But still the smallness of it all still occasionally surprises me. Sometimes I realize that I haven’t been off our home-base resort for over a week. I have just been watching the ocean, seeing it change directions, getting calmer, rougher, higher and…read more

Surrounded by nature

Posted by in Challenge, Life, Outdoors

I wrote about this before. I had no idea that at some point I would be so literally surrounded by “nature”. So we’re in a nature resort. The place is built from wood, covered mainly with bamboo roofs, surrounded by coconut trees and all kinds of other bushes and shrubs. All this nature comes free with a whole lot of creatures. It’s a constant buzzing and tweeting and gnawing of bugs, birds and other critters. I’ll make a short summary of the “main events” of the past week. There are…read more
